Filing a Claim
**CRITICALLY IMPORTANT** Concealed Damage Losses 5 Day Deadline
If the consignee signs/accepts the shipment without noting any damage or shortage on the delivery record, the carrier will assume the package was delivered in good condition. For the claim to be processed, MUST NOTIFY the carrier within 5 days. Outside of that time, the carrier will refuse to acknowledge a claim. PLEASE CALL US AT 508-885-6060 immediately. Also, take pictures, notations and keep the shipping cartons and packaging must be available for inspection.
A. A claim that has been noted on the delivery record (BOL) and its supporting documentation are required to be filed with the actual carrier within nine (9) months of delivery. SLC Nationwide, Inc can file that claim on your behalf (recommended) as a courtesy or you can file directly with the carrier. or the carrier which it hired to transport the shipment cannot pay a claim unless it is filed, in writing, within the allotted nine-month period.
- Please understand, SLC Nationwide, Inc is not the carrier. We carry contingent cargo, but it is not primary cargo insurance. The law specifies that a Logistics Broker does not take ownership of your cargo while in transit, therefore is not liable. According to the law, the claim will be filed against the carrier and their insurance company.
- Cargo claims for LTL and TL shipments vary greatly. LTL carriers do not insure your cargo unless purchased separately.
- Determining the claim Value of your cargo. LTL carriers will only consider your acquisition COST of GOODS, not the sales value. They will expect supporting documentation of your costs, purchase invoices, payment receipts, etc. Please understand, the higher the amount, the more detailed and scrutiny is applied. We will help you navigate this process.
- The freight bill MUST be paid first A damage or loss claim is separate liability issue. The carrier will not process a loss claim until they are paid. SLC Nationwide will pay the carrier immediately and ask you pay us. Depending on the outcome we are committed to work with you in a fair and ethical manner.
